Research

Research in animal chiropractic is extremely limited, however research in people is now beginning to show that stimulating nerves with adjusting fires mechanoreceptors and blocks the pain gate. Research is also documenting breathing difficulties and immune problems improving with chiropractic too. There is every reason to believe that this is also possible in animals. I mention this only to illustrate that chiropractic is far more than back pain.

Heres a link to an article on this theme.

More reasons to adjust an animal

Rider and events:
Riders can contribute to stress on an animals spine. Turning a horse to tightly can wrench its neck. Crooked seat for example can also be an issue. Improper saddling can cause problems alone. Add the weight of the rider on top of that and problems can be magnified. every even can strain the spine in a different way. Cross country courses are very demanding and agility dogs often have shoulder problems from jumping down from A-frames.

Transport:
Long transportation times, accidents, poor shock absorption in the trailer and unsympathetic driving can cause damage.

Lack of movement:
Lack of space in which to move does not give the horse enough opportunity to ease tension by bucking or rolling.

Reasons why every animal should be adjusted

Birthing difficulties:

Difficult births where the foal is forcibly extracted can cause problems in both the mare and the foal.
Trauma:  Caused by falls, trips, slips any accident
Posture: Any postural distortion can cause stress anywhere in the animals body. Longer backs in a horse and more obviously in the Daschund in the canine.

Age:
As age increases the effects of previous small and/or large traumas to the spine become more apparent.

Shoes
Poor hoof care and incorrect shoeing interfere with the horse’s movement resulting in subluxations of the spine.

Why use Chiropractic for animals?

Chiropractic works by realeasing an animal (and humans) full potential by working with the spine and nervous system. It is one of the most important things to improve health and function.

It is very gentle and specific working with the body.

Horses can have problems starting back from birth, continuing with vigorous work schedules and various other things

The spine is a very important and intricate structure. I usually tell my human clients, if you brush your teeth, why not take care of your spine?!

Chiropractic can
-help keep the horse flexible
-improve performance.
-It has good results with posture and the entire mechanics of the animal.

I have to state here, that as chiropractors, we do not treat or diagnose. That is for the vet, and the vet only.
